New Deal mobile: Launch of the frequency reallocation procedure, and writing new obligations into operators' licences
Acting on a proposal from Arcep, today the Government is issuing an invitation to tender with a view to reallocating 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2.1 GHz band frequencies, which are currently being used by 2G, 3G and 4G mobile networks and whose licences are set to expire between 2021 and 2024. Arcep is also writing the commitments that operators have made for 2018 to 2021 into their current mobile licences, to make them legally binding. Press release -
Arcep publishes its first quarterly scorecard on the new deal for mobile
The scorecard will track the progress, on a quarterly basis, of the commitments that operators made to the Government and to Arcep under the New Deal for mobile. The Authority will make mobile operators’ commitments for 2018 to 2020 legally binding, starting this summer. The monitoring tool is to provide elected officials and all market observers with the information they need to have a clear snapshot of the progress being made on these commitments at both the national and regional level. Arcep welcomes Orange and SFR FttH rollout commitments in "AMII" area
The Government requested Arcep's opinion on proposals for legally binding commitments from Orange and SFR, consisting of covering with fibre to the home (FttH) networks those parts of France where the Government issued a call for investment letters of intent in 2010 (known as "zone AMII"). Arcep welcomes these proposals for legally binding commitments: FttH services have to be available across the entire "zone AMII" by the end of 2020. Arcep delivers its check-up of the internet in France
For the second year in a row, Arcep is publishing its report on the "state of the internet in France". Submitted to Parliament, this report focuses on the different components of fixed and mobile internet networks: quality of service, interconnection, IPv6, net neutrality and the openness of devices. Based on the idea of "a complete check-up," Arcep delivers a "diagnosis" of the year gone by, and identifies the "shock therapies" or "preventive medicine" that need to be employed. The goal: to ensure that the network of networks that is the internet remains an inclusive public resource. Press release
